Royal Bank of Scotland - takeover of ABN Amro Group
Mourant du Feu & Jeune’s Business Practice Area acted for The Royal Bank of Scotland in the multi-billion pound takeover of ABN Amro Group.
It was the first time a consortium of three large banks – The Royal Bank of Scotland, Banco Santander and Fortis – had joined together to acquire another global bank and recognised the hurdles such as litigation, regulatory changes and a drying up of liquidity.
Mourant du Feu & Jeune’s Elaine Millar and John Lewis advised in relation to regulatory aspects in Jersey and Guernsey respectively, assisted by Matthew Shaxson. Elaine Millar also advised, with Helen Ruelle, on Jersey competition law matters while Wendy Lambert advised on employment law.
International Financial Law Review cited this deal as ’having absolutely everything’ when announcing it as the M&A deal of the year.
