Mourant's Caribbean teams praised by clients in Chambers Global

Mourant teams in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Cayman Islands have been recognised in the latest edition of Chambers and Partners Global 2020, described by clients as "incredibly approachable, very strong in the technical know-how and great communicators".

This year the ranking guide features 13 lawyers from across Mourant's Caribbean offices, with the firm maintaining its high rankings across the board in both the BVI and Cayman Islands.

In the BVI practice, Rachael McDonald leads the Corporate and Finance team, which is recognised as a strong player for transactions that provides "great advice". The BVI Litigation department is praised for its work advising the court-appointed liquidators of Madoff funds, Kingate Global and Kingate Euro, in a variety of matters arising from their liquidation. Head of the team, Eleanor Morgan, is described as, "knowledgeable and swiftly decisive" and "hugely experienced in litigation".

In the Cayman Islands, clients commend that the Investment Funds team "are exceptional, extremely responsive and experienced", while being "client-focused and certainly accommodating to client needs". The Corporate and Finance lawyers "roll up their sleeves, provide expert advice and get the deal done". 

Cayman office Managing Partner, Hayden Isbister is described as "great to work with", and "tremendous, extremely responsive, knowledgeable and a fund formation expert". Neal Lomax is recognised for his "calm demeanour, unimpeachable judgement and ability to see all angles of the issue", while Ramesh Maharaj is recommended for his strengths in private equity. Market sources describe Alex Last as "highly driven, determined, commercial and ambitious", while Catherine Pham is called "a great attorney to work with" and commended for being "experienced and responsive". Robert Duggan, a Cayman lawyer based in London and the firm's London Managing Partner, is described as "thoroughly commercial" and provides "really good, practical advice".

Clients praised the "long-standing" Cayman Islands Dispute Resolution team for its ability to handle multibillion fraud cases, and cite their work advising AHAB in a USD4 billion fraud claim against Maan Al Sanea and the Saad Group. Peter Hayden is recognised as "a good advocate, very solid and knows what he is doing". Christopher Harlowe is described as "a very experienced and polished insolvency lawyer with some pedigree". Clients noted that Hector Robinson QC is an "excellent advocate" who is "very trusted" and Simon Dickson is praised for being "very attentive to details" and an "articulate advocate". Nicholas Fox is said to be "very responsive, professional and personable".
