Senior appointment signals further growth at Mourant in Hong Kong

Mourant has further strengthened its litigation and insolvency practice in Hong Kong with the appointment of insolvency and commercial litigation specialist Justine Lau. The move is part of ongoing strategic expansion in Asia for Mourant which has become one of the leading offshore firms in the Asia market since launching in 2012.

Justine, who joins Mourant from Mayer Brown, has more than 10 years' experience advising on a broad range of insolvency related issues. Her practice involves advising clients on all types of litigious matters arising from the management of insolvent estates, and advising creditors in respect of their rights and claims in and against insolvent estates (liquidation, receivership and other insolvency administrations).

Justine is also a director of the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation, a worldwide, non-profit corporation to promote women in restructuring-related professions and provide opportunities for education, business development, leadership and mentoring of women in restructuring-related professions.

Globally, the Mourant litigation practice group is the largest in the offshore world. Last year lawyers from the firm played leading roles in some of the largest and most high-profile offshore disputes including the Madoff fraud related Pearson v Primeo Fund and the related Primeo v. HSBC case, as well as one of the largest cases to be brought before the court in the Channel Islands relating the Carlyle Capital Corporation. During this period Mourant has also acted in a number of disputes before the Privy Council.
