Corporate Social Responsibility
Mourant du Feu & Jeune is a leading offshore law firm with a reputation for providing outstanding client service and technical excellence in key offshore financial centres around the world.
We are committed to demonstrating responsible business behaviour across our jurisdictions, and have developed our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to reflect this.
The three branches of our CSR strategy are:
- Entrepreneurial Spirit & Endeavour
- Environment
- Education
Entrepreneurial Spirit & Endeavour
Our success over the past 60 years has been, in many ways, due to our entrepreneurial spirit, which remains at the heart of the firm today. As a business, we actively encourage entrepreneurial spirit in our employees and individuals within our communities through various sponsorships and initiatives. In Jersey, we give our time to a number of projects on a pro bono basis, most notably to young business entrepreneurs through our involvement with the Prince's Trust.
We also encourage individual endeavour through our employee scheme, which supports staff engaging in charitable and/or community projects with a nominal gesture of good will. Awards are from and are based on individuals showing endeavour to support good causes.
Environment
As an offshore law firm our environment is an important part of our culture. Many of our staff choose to work for us because of the locations in which we are based and the lifestyle this offers; 'City-quality work, with an offshore lifestyle'. As such we're committed to making sure our environment is here for us and for future generations to enjoy.
Mourant was the first offshore law firm to join the Legal Sector Alliance, an inclusive movement of law firms and organisations committed to working collaboratively to take action on climate change by reducing their carbon footprint and adopting environmentally sustainable practices. We were also the first law firm to be awarded a 'level two certificate' by Eco-Active, an organisation backed by the government of Jersey to improve the environmental impact of businesses and individuals. Currently, we're working towards qualification to Level 3 and accreditation to the international environmental management standard ISO14001.
We consider environment as not just our physical surroundings, but also our community. As we strive to be 'consistently recognised as the leading law firm offshore', we feel an obligation to help shape the law in the best interests of our community and our clients. In Jersey and Cayman, our Private Client Litigation team provides exceptional support to the community through their involvement in the legal aid systems. We’re proud of the service they provide and the benefit this gives to the Island communities. Our support of the current legal aid system in Jersey and Cayman is not undertaken lightly, as well as making sure that the individuals engaged in the process are of the highest possible calibre and within a dedicated team, we also take on approximately 20% of all the legal aid certificates in Jersey.
Education
Mourant du Feu & Jeune is committed to development through education within the firm and externally. We, like many firms, are committed to developing our staff through financial support for further education and professional recognition, but we also encourage personal development through community and charitable endeavours, as explained above.
Our commitment to education is also a commitment to our communities. In all locations we have established programmes with various organisations to help develop educational projects, whether this is through mentoring or setting up specific projects within schools. As an employer we want to be considered, by our employees, as one of the best places to work and inspire others to want to work for us.
Why do we believe this is important?
We believe that having a policy for corporate social responsibility is integral to who we are. As a leading offshore law firm we have a responsibility to invest in our communities and we do this by continuously building on our CSR credentials. We continue to put time and resources into developing bespoke programmes of activity under the above mentioned headings, and are continuing to roll out initiatives across all our jurisdictions with the help and engagement of our employees.
