Guernsey Schools Lord Jersey Rugby Squad

For the first time in Guernsey Schools Rugby history the Lord Jersey Rugby Tournament, held at Jersey Rugby Club, had two Guernsey Island School teams in attendance.

Mourant teamed up with the Guernsey Lord Jersey rugby squad and assisted with the travel costs in getting thirty 15 and 16 year old boys to Jersey for the event, which was lucky enough to have perfect rugby conditions.

The boys had been preparing for the tournament since the early start of January and had invested many hours on the field, in the gym and at team meetings in order to make sure they were prepared to the best of their ability.

The Lord Jersey Tournament allows students from all backgrounds, abilities and experiences of rugby to come together and work as a team. The Guernsey teams were made up of boys from all of the island's secondary schools and competition was fierce from the start as soon as the first whistle blew.

Both teams had a fantastic experience of playing against some of the top Jersey rugby schools. The Guernsey schools second team showed great resilience in defending on their try line and it was brilliant to see them create some fantastic scoring opportunities. The Guernsey first team were thrilled to get to the final and only just missed out on taking home the main trophy, having lost to a very athletic and well drilled Victoria College team.
