Channel Islands' leading Trusts Forum to hear from Cambridge Analytica CEO

The Mourant Guernsey and Jersey Trusts Forums will hear from a compelling line up of speakers this March including Julian Wheatland, formerly of Cambridge Analytica, who oversaw the growth of the company into one of the most influential data analytics companies in the world.

The day-long Forums, sponsored by Butterfield Trust (Guernsey) Limited and BDO, will bring together professionals from across the private wealth sector at the first of the firm's trust and private client events of 2020.

Julian will deliver the keynote address, telling the extraordinary story of the rise and fall of Cambridge Analytica. In 2018, following the media controversy surrounding the company, he stepped into the role of CEO in order to wind it down. After focusing on ensuring the orderly closure of the business Julian broke his self-imposed embargo, publicly commenting in the fascinating 2019 Netflix documentary "The Great Hack". His address will also discuss the PR challenges posed by being at the centre of a major media story and the wider issue of how our data is being used.

The Jersey Forum will be held on Tuesday 10 March at The Royal Yacht Hotel. The Guernsey Forum will be held on Thursday 12 March at the St Pierre Park Hotel. Both events will be chaired by Paul Hodgson, Deputy Group Head of Butterfield Trust.

Lawyers from the Mourant International Trusts and Private Client team will be joined by experts from all over the world to debate key issues facing trusts and trustees. The topics covered will include key cases from 2019 and their impact on the private client industry, insolvent trusts, updates on economic substance and a session delivered by 'next generation leaders' on the trends, challenges and opportunities they expect to see in the years to come.
