Trainee solicitor opportunities in Jersey and Guernsey
We strongly believe in nurturing future talent. Providing quality opportunities for students in law and governance services is a key business priority for us as a firm.
To support this, we run a range of internship programmes, trainee schemes, and student opportunities across our global offices which offer aspiring professionals hands-on experience and exposure to real-world challenges.
Jersey Trainee Solicitor Programme
We recently launched the Jersey Trainee Solicitor Programme, which offers a pathway to qualify as Solicitors in England and Wales, Jersey, or both jurisdictions, through a two/three-year placement.
All trainees will gain practical legal experience across various practice groups in our Jersey office and get the chance to work on complex, high-profile matters. Trainees will be supported by Mourant mentors throughout the period.
The window for positions starting in September 2026 and 2027 closes on Friday 19 December 2025 and applications can be made via our website.
Guernsey SQE Trainee Programme
Also in the Channel Islands, we offer the SQE Trainee Programme in Guernsey for aspiring lawyers looking to start a career in law and qualify as a Solicitor in England and Wales.
The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), introduced by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in 2021, is designed to make qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales more accessible to individuals from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. Subject to some transitionary exceptions, the SQE has replaced the Legal Practice Course (LPC) as the main route to qualification.
Taking place over the course of the two years, trainees gain hands-on experience by rotating between practice groups in our Guernsey office, whilst also studying for the SQE.
All trainees receive a competitive reward package, which covers SQE preparation course costs, exam fees, and paid study leave; and also benefit from high quality mentorship throughout the period.
As a firm, we took on two trainees in 2024, with an additional three trainees joining us this year.
Billy Schreibke, who began the SQE Trainee Programme in 2024, commented:
