Jewel the dolphin and the Mourant Ocean Pledge in action
Earlier this year, we proudly sponsored a dolphin in the Dolphin Discovery Trail in Guernsey, which benefited two charities: GSPCA and Autism Guernsey.
The dolphin trail was a public art event across Guernsey, featuring 62 unique, artist-painted dolphin sculptures, each with their own unique story.
The Dolphin Discovery Trail culminated with a charity auction in September, where each dolphin was sold to the highest bidder, raising an incredible £80,000 for the two well-deserving causes.
We partnered with La Société Guernesiaise on our dolphin, Jewel, with the aim of raising awareness of the Bailiwick DolFin Project – set up in 2019 to better understand how many dolphins, whales and porpoises live in the area and where they can be found. This closely relates to our own Mourant Ocean Pledge which demonstrates our commitment to environmental sustainability, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14 – Life Below Water.
Artist Nicky Harris, who is also the secretary of the marine biology section of La Société, designed and created our beautiful dolphin, which was situated at Moulin Huet throughout the period of the trail.
The Dolphin Discovery Trail was fun for all ages and was an excellent initiative to encourage people to explore the island. We will continue to support initiatives such as this that align with our Ocean Pledge, helping to protect marine biodiversity and promote sustainable practices.
