We're thrilled to once again partner with the Channel Islands' LGBTQ+ charity, Liberate, to sponsor the 2022 Channel Islands (CI) Pride Parade in both Guernsey and Jersey.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the of the first Pride march in the UK,  Liberate in Guernsey and Liberate in Jersey have joined forces this year to host coordinated events that span across the Channel Islands. Guernsey will host CI Pride on Saturday 3 September and then pass the baton to Jersey on Saturday 10 September for the celebrations to continue.

Pride parades take place every year across the world to celebrate the LGBT+ community, recognise progress that has been made in the LGBT+ rights movement, and raise awareness of ongoing challenges experienced by LGBT+ people. Equity, diversity, and inclusion is a key business and people priority at Mourant and we’re therefore proud to offer our continued support and highlight the importance of inclusion.

Mourant Guernsey Managing Partner, John Lewis, said: "Mourant is thrilled to support CI Pride for the third consecutive year by sponsoring this year's parade across both islands.

"Pride is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the islands' diverse community, and to raise awareness of challenges experienced by LGBT+ people and steps we can all take to ensure everyone can be their true selves."

With a nod to the first UK Pride held in 1972, the 2022 CI Pride events will be 70s-themed, with visitors encouraged to dig out the flares (as well as the obligatory glitter and rainbow flags, of course)!

Despite the fun, organisers have stressed that there is still a serious message about the importance of inclusion in the Pride event. CEO of Liberate in Guernsey, Ellie Jones, said: “We’ve come a long way since the first Pride, so we’re getting our ‘Pride fever’ on and marking our progress with a party. However, it’s important to remember that there is still more to be done and, while we love the glitter and rainbows, there is a serious message about the importance of inclusion and providing a safe environment for islanders to express their true selves without discrimination.”

As sponsors of the 2022 Parades, the team at Mourant will be attending the events in force, and are looking forward to celebrating Pride with the whole island community.

Mourant Jersey Managing Partner, Daniel Birtwistle, added: "With the unfortunate cancellation of the Parade in Jersey last year due to COVID, we're anticipating a fantastic turnout in what promises to be a joyous celebration of Pride.

"We're committed to nurturing a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect, where our people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences are empowered to thrive and feel that they belong. It's therefore wonderful that the events have been combined across Jersey and Guernsey for this coordinated event and we look forward to joining the parades on this milestone anniversary."
