Mourant supports Mind Jersey and young people's mental health

Team Mourant in Jersey recently took part in their own fundraising challenge in support of local mental health charity, Mind Jersey.

With a recent Government of Jersey report revealing that 1 in 6 children aged five to sixteen years old in Jersey are likely to have a mental health disorder, Team Mourant decided to place a focus on 1 in 6, launching the Team Mourant 1.6 Fundraising Challenge.

Employees were encouraged to take part in a team, individual or family activity during the month of July based around the numbers 1.6 or 16. Example challenges included six sessions of 16 minutes yoga, holding a plank for 1.6 minutes, hopping 16 lengths of the kitchen, 16 people sing-along on Zoom, run, walk or cycle 1.6 miles each day for 16 days.

One of the most gruelling of challenges saw a dozen colleagues with friends and family (pictured below) walk 16 miles on a hot summer's day from La Fregate, St Helier to La Braye, St Ouen and back.

With the firm's local Charity Team offering to match the money raised, Team Mourant donated £3,000 to enable 10 people who work with, live or support young people to attend Mind Jersey's Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses.

Mind Jersey is one of Team Mourant's 2021 nominated charities of the year as voted for by the firm's Jersey employees. The other chosen charities are Grace Trust Jersey, Jersey Child Care Trust and Jersey Women's Refuge.
