Mourant welcomes two new Articled Clerks to its corporate practice

16 September 2019

Leading global offshore law firm, Mourant, has announced two new Caymanian Articled Clerks have joined its corporate department, bringing the headcount in the Cayman Islands office to 90.

David Ramsaran, 2018 Chantal Whittaker Memorial Scholarship recipient, recently completed his LPC at the University of Law in London with Commendation. Prior to that, he graduated with First Class Honours in Law from Oxford Brookes University. David also completed four consecutive summer internships with the firm. He said "I'm excited to start work with Mourant as an articled clerk. I have really enjoyed working at Mourant during previous summer internships and I'm very grateful for their support during my studies. I look forward to developing as a lawyer with the incredible Mourant team."

Rejonté Rivers originally joined the firm in January 2015 as a Corporate Administrator in Mourant Governance Services (previously Mourant Ozannes Corporate Services). She progressed to Senior Corporate Administrator and then to Client Services Manager on the governance team and simultaneously completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP University. Upon completion of the Graduate Diploma in Law in July 2018, she continued her studies and successfully finished the Professional Practice Course at the Truman Bodden Law School in July 2019. Whilst completing the Professional Practice Course, Rejonté transferred to the law firm as a Paralegal in October 2018 and diligently worked to juggle a very intense work and school schedule. Now that her studies are complete, she has accepted the position of Articled Clerk in the firm's corporate team and is due to start this month.

Rejonté commented: "It has been a challenging and exciting three years of pursuing my legal education and working hard in my various roles. I have grown and developed so much thanks to the opportunities and support from Mourant since joining the firm almost five years ago. I am incredibly excited and grateful for this next chapter as an Article Clerk and I look forward to continuing to work alongside my Mourant family."

The two new Articled Clerks join Mellissa Thomas, who joined the firm in October 2018 as an Articled Clerk, currently completing her litigation seat. Mellissa is due to qualify next March and will be leaving for a three-month secondment with Erskine Chambers in London later this month, which will provide her with a different perspective on the offshore legal industry.

Hayden Isbister, Managing Partner of the Cayman Islands office said: "We're thrilled to welcome David and Rejonté to the corporate team. We're committed to nurturing and developing our people to be the best they can be and pleased to have previously supported them both on our student programmes. I look forward to seeing David and Rejonté continue to grow their careers in the firm and wish them every success in their new roles."
