Supporting the Derek Larner Memorial Run in the Cayman Islands
It was a privilege to support the Derek Larner Memorial Run, which took place in the Cayman Islands last month (October 2025).
This meaningful community event celebrated the life and legacy of Derek Larner, a dedicated athlete, coach, and mentor who left an enduring mark on the Cayman Islands' running community. Derek was not only an accomplished athlete but also a mentor and inspiration, particularly to many young people in the Cayman Islands.
Derek, who tragically passed away in 2021 from pancreatic cancer, founded both the 345 Athletics Club (now Vision Academy 345) and Race Caribbean, inspiring countless runners and athletes. His dedication and encouragement of others to lead active lifestyles left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
As part of Mourant's commitment to supporting local initiatives that make a positive community impact, we were proud to pledge our sponsorship for a second year. The inclusive event was open to participants of all levels and abilities, and welcomed both runners and walkers – including 22 colleagues from our Cayman office who were proud to participate.
Our firm's contribution helped make the event possible, with proceeds benefitting two local charities close to Derek’s heart: Jasmine and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, both of which provide vital care and support to individuals and families across the Cayman Islands.
In November, we also announced our support for the 2026 Mourant Marathon Relay Race in Guernsey as title sponsor for the sixth year running. This annual event welcomes a variety of runners – from elite athletes, to friends and colleagues taking part in the Mourant Relay, and families having fun whilst raising money for their chosen charity.
