Lord David Blunkett confirmed as keynote speaker for Mourant Trusts and Private Wealth Forums 2023

Mourant, a law firm-led professional services business, has confirmed that the Rt Hon Lord David Blunkett will deliver the keynote address at the 2023 Jersey and Guernsey Trusts and Private Wealth Forums.

Lord Blunkett has served in public life for over 50 years. After the 1997 Labour landslide he was appointed Secretary of State for Education and Employment, overseeing education and skills policy. This included early years, school, further and higher education; as well as post-16 skills and apprenticeships.

As Home Secretary during one of the most tumultuous periods in recent history Lord Blunkett led one of the most controversial departments with responsibility for counter terrorism, immigration and justice. He also served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and during his time in cabinet, oversaw the Equal Opportunities Commission.

After an impressive 28 years in the Commons, Lord Blunkett continued his public service in the Lords, and was also appointed Professor of Politics in Practice at the University of Sheffield and Chair of the board of the University of Law.

Widely recognised as the leading events of their kind in the Channel Islands, the Mourant Trusts and Private Wealth Forums consistently deliver the latest insights on key topics and trends in the trusts and private wealth sector.

In addition to Lord Blunkett's keynote address, this year's programme will feature topical panel discussions delivered by experts in their fields, on issues including tax and planning considerations around mobile families and practical advice for trustees on preparing for MONEYVAL, a permanent monitoring body of the Council of Europe who assess compliance with the principal international standards to counter money laundering and terrorist financing. Mourant experts will also provide a case round up for the year.

The Jersey Trusts and Private Wealth Forum will take place on Tuesday 4 July at the Radisson Blu Hotel, with the Guernsey event following on Thursday 6 July, hosted at St Pierre Park Hotel. Tickets for the full-day conferences are priced at £160pp.
