Mourant promotes four lawyers to Counsel

01 May 2018

Leading offshore law firm Mourant Ozannes has announced the appointment of four lawyers to the role of Counsel, bringing the total number of Counsel across its global network to 23.

Litigators, Jennifer Maughan and Luke Olivier, and corporate and investment fund specialists, Dylan Latimer and Leanne Wallser, will be promoted to their new roles on 1 May 2018.

Mourant Global Managing Partner, Jonathan Rigby, said: "These individuals have been recognised for their commercial judgement, as well as their impressive technical skills, and their ability to build trusted relationships with our clients and their advisors. I'm really pleased to see them continue to develop and grow their careers with us and wish them every success in their new roles as Counsel."

Dylan Latimer has worked for the firm's Guernsey practice for over five years and advises on banking and finance, funds, mergers and acquisitions as well as general corporate law. He also has particular expertise and experience in private equity transactions.

Jennifer Maughan is a lawyer in the firm's thriving Hong Kong litigation practice, and has a background in dispute resolution at Magic Circle firms including Allen & Overy and Herbert Smith. Her practice comprises general commercial disputes with a particular focus on shareholder disputes including unfair prejudice claims, derivative actions, and winding up proceedings brought on just and equitable grounds.

Luke Olivier is a lawyer in the Jersey litigation practice and has expertise in advising trust and corporate service providers in relation to contentious and non-contentious trusts/foundations work, with a particular specialism on assisting trustees/beneficiaries with issues relating to foreign tax authorities. He also has experience in insolvency litigation and restructuring matters, and regularly advises liquidators appointed over both insolvent trading companies and investment funds, asset based lenders, directors and insolvency practitioners on contentious insolvency issues.

Leanne Wallser is an investment funds and corporate lawyer with experience advising on all aspects of Jersey fund establishment, regulation, structuring, maintenance and termination. In addition to her funds work, she also advises on a range of corporate matters, including property financing and restructuring work. Leanne has been with the firm since 2003 having worked in the Hong Kong, London and Jersey offices.

Mourant was recently recognised for its 'ADVANCE Mini MBA' programme which was shortlisted for 'Best Programme for Leadership Development' at the 2017 Managing Partners' Forum (MPF) awards. The 'ADVANCE Mini-MBA' programme is a week-long intensive study event for Counsel who have been identified as possible future partners at the firm. The programme, which is unique among offshore law firms, is designed to help Counsel to perform their leadership role and prepare them for the potential transition to partner.
