Celebrating World Ocean Week 2026
Monday 8 June marked World Ocean Day 2026 to coincide with World Ocean Week, celebrated annually to raise global awareness of the vital role our oceans play in everyday life and to inspire collective action to protect them.
The ocean is the planet’s life support system, regulating our climate, supporting biodiversity, and underpinning the wellbeing of communities around the world. This is especially meaningful for us at Mourant, with many of our offices located in island jurisdictions where healthy oceans are closely connected to local environments, economies, and ways of life.
As a firm, we continue to support marine conservation organisations, participate in local environmental initiatives, and help reduce ocean waste through activities such as beach clean-ups and community engagement projects.

Celebrating World Ocean Week in partnership with OCL
We’re proud to continue our partnership with Ocean Culture Life (OCL) for a fifth year and were the lead impact partner for this year’s annual Jersey World Ocean Week programme.
On Thursday 4 June we hosted our annual World Ocean Week client dinner in Jersey alongside longstanding partner, OCL. Set against the backdrop of high tide (and Force 8 winds!), it was a pleasure to bring this year’s theme, ‘into the deep’, to life through an immersive and interactive experience.
During the event, OCL founders Tamsin Raine and Matt Porteous spoke about the powerful journey they have been on since founding OCL, with guest speaker Andrew Cotton sharing his inspiring perspective on resilience and pushing boundaries as a big wave surfer.
Keeping our beaches clean
On the evening of World Ocean Day 2026, volunteers from our Guernsey office took part in a local beach clean in partnership with the Clean Earth Trust. The team collected over 30kg of marine litter including large pieces of rubber, glass, fabric and nearly 100 cigarette butts. One of the more interesting items collected included a garden fork!
Earlier in the year, members of our Cayman Islands office also attended CaymanCLEAN – the islands’ largest annual volunteer cleanup. Hosted by the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, the cleanup is a cornerstone of the Chamber’s Quality of Life advocacy pillar, which champions a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment for everyone who calls Cayman home.
Our Hong Kong office also continue to host an annual beach clean. This year, the team visited Shek O Beach in the southeast of Hong Kong Island, and in collaboration with representatives from Hong Kong Cleanup and the Hong Kong Football Club, the team of 33 volunteers collected nearly 300kg of waste during the session.
In addition, Hong Kong team members were encouraged to mark World Ocean Day 2026 by visiting their local beach and taking part in clean ups, helping to extend the impact beyond the annual beach clean event. By supporting individual action alongside group initiatives, the team reinforced the importance of individual contribution to environmental responsibility.
This year, we renewed our sponsorship of Blue Marine Foundation’s schools snorkel trail education programme. As part of the sponsorship, we donated snorkel sets to more than 100 children in two Jersey primary schools to encourage them to engage directly with Jersey’s unique marine environment outside of Blue Marine’s snorkel training.
Snorkel donation to Jersey schoolchildren
This year, we renewed our sponsorship of Blue Marine Foundation’s schools snorkel trail education programme in Jersey for a further year. The continued sponsorship builds on an established partnership between our firm and the marine conservation non-profit.

The donation marks five years of our support of Blue Marine Foundation, particularly its education outreach programme, which is delivered on an annual basis to Jersey primary school pupils in Years 5 and 6.
