Embracing Better Journeys Week 2026

Between 18 and 22 May, colleagues across our Guernsey and Jersey offices embraced Better Journeys Week, by choosing more sustainable travel options for the week.

Mourant is lead sponsor of Channel Islands-based sustainable transport charity, the Better Journeys Project, which organised the initiative.

Better Journeys Week was born in Jersey five years ago as ‘Alternative Transport Week’ and has since grown to be a multi-jurisdictional initiative under the banner of Better Journeys Week. 2026 saw the charity extend its reach to the Isle of Man for the first time.

It was great to see so many colleagues in Guernsey and Jersey get involved this year in ways that worked for them – whether that meant doing the school run on foot, swapping the car for a bike, or choosing public transport for their commute.

Guernsey vs Jersey challenge

As part of Better Journeys Week, we launched a friendly island to island competition encouraging colleagues to reduce the carbon footprint of their commute.

By logging journeys across the week, colleagues helped build a clearer picture of our collective impact, with the aim of reducing our carbon footprint and creating more mindful travel habits.

Our 2026 winner was the Guernsey office, who enjoyed their winners’ prize of a range of baked goods from a local bakery.

Bike clinic

In preparation for Better Journeys Week, we organised for free bike maintenance clinics, delivered with support from Acorn Enterprises in Jersey and Bicycle Solutions in Guernsey, to help get bikes road ready. In total, over 40 colleagues came along to the clinics to ensure their bikes were checked, adjusted and ready to go for the week ahead.

Looking ahead

Better Journeys Week is a great reminder that even small changes can have a positive impact – on our environment, our wellbeing, and the way we move through our day.

While the week itself may be over, the aim is to carry those habits forward, whether that’s swapping the car for a walk, cycling part of a journey, or trying something new with Better Journey Days, part of the wider Better Journeys Project, which offers regular opportunities to continue making more sustainable travel choices.

Thank you to everyone who got involved and supported the initiative.
