STEP success for Mourant Associate

14 October 2019

Mourant associate, Sophie Denman, has qualified as a trust and estate practitioner (TEP) upon completion of the STEP Diploma in International Trust Management with distinction, obtaining full membership with STEP.

Sophie, who is a lawyer in the firm's award-winning International Trust and Private Client (ITPC) practice, recently qualified as a full member of STEP through the Society's exam route. This is one of the foremost recognised qualifications in the trust and private client industry and demonstrates a practitioner's level of expertise in this area. To complete the qualification by this route, a practitioner must take four exams.

Sophie said: "Working towards being accepted for full STEP membership has allowed me to gain a greater understanding of all aspects of trust and private client work. Mourant has been encouraging me throughout my journey to becoming a TEP. The firm is very supportive of those who wish to undertake professional qualifications and further their careers".

Last year, Sophie received a Worldwide Excellence Award for obtaining a distinction and the highest mark worldwide in the STEP Advanced Certificate in Company Law & Practice.

Sophie's practice covers advising trustees, beneficiaries and settlors in relation to a broad spectrum of contentious and non-contentious trust, foundation and private client matters. She specialises in Guernsey, Cayman and BVI law and is based in the firm's London office.

Mourant Guernsey Managing Partner and Head of ITPC in Guernsey, Matthew Guthrie, said: "Sophie's full STEP membership is a clear recognition of her dedication to her field of work and we are very proud of her. As a firm we're committed to providing our people with opportunities to excel and to achieve their ambitions with us. It's great to see Sophie's hard work come to fruition in this way."
