Four primary school children win Mourant    Go Wild Gorillas competition

30 December 2019

Mourant has announced the four lucky winners of their Go Wild Gorillas Colouring Competition which invited budding young artists across the island to create their very own gorilla design.

The four primary school children were awarded their prizes at a recent presentation held at Mourant's office in St Helier. The competition ran in conjunction with the firm's sponsorship of their Chinese inspired King (Hong) Kong gorilla, one of the 40 silverback sculptures that featured in this year's hugely successful Go Wild Gorillas public art trail, organised by Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust to raise funds for a new, state-of-the-art gorilla house at Jersey Zoo.

The competition offered youngsters the chance to go wild and show their creative side by designing their very own version of Mourant's King (Hong) Kong. The winner in each age category received a voucher for a special 'Meerkat and Otter encounter' for two people at Jersey Zoo, with winners and the runner up in each category receiving a boxed set of art pencils.

The first prize winner in the 6 years and under category was William Casson (now 7) from St Mary's School with runner up Max Fennell (6) from St Clement's School. Les Landes School pupil, Joe Vibert (11), was the winner in the 7-11 years old category, with Erin Richardson (11) from Le Rocquier School as runner up.

Mourant Jersey Managing Partner, Daniel Birtwistle said: "We were really impressed with the colourful, vibrant and detailed designs we received. It certainly made choosing just four winners very difficult. Durrell's Go Wild Gorillas trail was a unique opportunity for people of all ages to discover and be inspired by art which was reflected in many of the entries. Huge thanks to everyone who took part and warm congratulations to our winners. We hope William and Joe enjoy their behind the scenes experience learning all about Jersey Zoo's cheeky meerkats and otters!"

Mourant's eye catching gorilla sculpture, King (Hong) Kong, brought a piece of Asian culture to the island this summer and was designed by up-and-coming artist Jessica Perrin, raising £17,000 for Durrell at the Grand Gorilla Auction in November.
