Recognition for Mourant in Asia

Awards announced by the prestigious China Business Law Journal, set the scene for further ambitious growth.

Mourant has been awarded the 'Deal of the Year' award for two landmark China-related deals that the firm advised on in 2018. The China Business Law Journal published its full analysis of the winning deals and the law firms that guided them, in its 'Deals of the Year Report' this week. Mourant Hong Kong has also been nominated for 'Offshore Firm of the Year' at the prestigious IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards.

The two deals led by Partners Simon Lawrenson and Paul Christopher, and among this year’s CBLJ 'Deal of the Year' winners, are: CDH Investments and China Grand Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Holdings take over Sirtex Medical Limited; and their involvement in the privatisation of GLP, Asia's biggest-ever PE acquisition by value. Mourant acted for Vanke Group, part of the Chinese PE consortium that acquired Singapore's Global Logistic Properties itself—the largest warehouse operator in Asia—for $11.6 billion.

The awards follow an eventful start to the year for Mourant, which announced the appointment of Justine Lau to its partnership earlier this week, and a successful start to China Seminar Series – which kicked off in Shenzhen last month with over 160 delegates attending – and will be further staged in both Beijing and Shanghai during March and May.
